Today, we’re reflecting on one of the most powerful stories of faith in Scripture — the story of Abraham and Isaac in Genesis 22.

God gives Abraham a command that feels impossible:

“Take your son, your only son, whom you love… and offer him as a sacrifice.”

If we’re honest, most of us would want to run in the opposite direction.
But Abraham doesn’t. Scripture says that early the next morning, he obeys.

He takes Isaac, two servants, and a donkey, and sets out for the place God would show him. When they reach the base of the mountain, Abraham tells his servants:

“Stay here with the donkey. The boy and I will go and worship — and then we will come back.”

Even in the tension of uncertainty, Abraham speaks faith. He believes that somehow, God will provide.

As they climb the mountain, Isaac asks, “Where is the lamb for the offering?”
And Abraham answers,

“God Himself will provide the lamb.”

Abraham doesn’t yet know how the story will end — but he trusts the same God who has always been faithful.
At the final moment, God stops Abraham and provides a ram caught in a thicket.

Through Abraham’s obedience, God’s provision is revealed.
Through his faith, the promise is renewed.
And generations later, through Abraham’s lineage, God would send His own Son — Jesus Christ — as the ultimate Lamb who takes away the sins of the world.

This story reminds us that obedience unlocks provision and that God’s grace always meets us on the other side of surrender.

Obedience isn’t always easy — it often requires us to lay down what we love most. But when we release control, we open the door to encounter God’s goodness in a deeper way.

Challenge

What are you holding onto too tightly?
What’s the thing you’re afraid to hand over to God — your plans, your image, your comfort, or your sense of control?

Ask God to show you what you need to surrender this week.
Because true peace and grace are found on the other side of obedience.

When you release what you love most, you’ll find that God was never asking to take something from you — He was preparing to give you something better.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the example of Abraham — for his courage to obey even when it didn’t make sense.
Show us what we’re holding onto and give us the strength to surrender it fully to You.
Teach us to trust that Your plans are better than ours and that Your grace is waiting for us on the other side of obedience.
Help us to walk by faith, not by sight, believing that You will always provide.
We love You and choose to follow You completely.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
