Today we sit with one of the most tender and comforting names of God found in Scripture — El Roi, meaning:
“The God who sees me.”

This name is spoken by Hagar in Genesis 16, a woman whose story reflects deep pain, misunderstanding, and abandonment.

Hagar was pregnant, mistreated, pushed aside, and overwhelmed. Feeling unseen and unheard, she fled into the wilderness — a place of loneliness, exhaustion, and fear. Yet it was there, in the quiet isolation of the desert, that God met her.

The angel of the Lord found her, called her by name, spoke truth into her situation, reminded her of God’s promise, and gave her hope for the future.

And in response, Hagar declared:

“You are the God who sees me.” — Genesis 16:13

In the very place where she felt invisible and forgotten, God revealed that she had never been out of His sight.
He saw her.
He understood her.
He cared for her.

And the same is true for you.

Maybe you’re walking through a season that feels hidden from others —
• where your effort goes unrecognized,
• where your prayers feel unanswered,
• where your struggles feel unnoticed,
• where your heartache feels invisible.

But hear this today:

God sees you.

He sees you when you serve quietly without applause.
He sees you when you choose faith even with trembling hands.
He sees you when you cry on the way home or in the middle of the night.
He sees you when no one understands the battle you’re fighting internally.
He sees the weight you carry, the wounds you hide, and the faith you hold onto.

But God does more than see
He stays, He speaks, and He sustains.

Just like Hagar, you may feel like you’ve wandered into a wilderness.
But God steps into that wilderness with you.
He doesn’t chase you down to correct you — He comes to comfort you.
He doesn’t dismiss your pain — He redeems your pain.
He doesn’t overlook your story — He enters your story.

Hagar ran from rejection…
but she walked away with revelation:

“I am not unseen. I am not forgotten.
God knows me. God cares for me. God is with me.”

Let that truth settle in your spirit today.
You are fully seen, fully known, and fully loved.

Challenge

Today, take a moment to reflect on God’s faithfulness in your life.

  • Write down one moment where God saw you — a moment where He showed up unexpectedly.

  • Thank Him for the ways He has guided, protected, and provided in seasons no one else knew about.

Let gratitude remind you:
You have never been unseen — not for a moment.

Prayer

God, thank You for being the God who sees us.
Thank You for noticing every detail of our lives — even the parts we hide, even the moments we feel invisible.
Remind us today that we are never alone, never forgotten, never overlooked.
Fill us with confidence that Your eyes are always on us and that Your presence goes before us.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
