We’ve been talking about God’s provision, and today we’ll look at how He provided for the Apostle Paul in Philippians chapter 4.
At this point in Paul’s life, he’s under house arrest and waiting for trial — completely dependent on others to meet his needs.
The Philippian church heard about Paul’s situation and sent help — likely money, supplies, and, as the Bible highlights, a friend named Epaphroditus (ee-PAF-row-DIE-tus).
Listen to what Paul writes in Philippians 4:18–19:
“At the moment I have all I need—and more! I am generously supplied with the gifts you sent me with Epaphroditus. They are a sweet-smelling sacrifice that is acceptable and pleasing to God.
And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from His glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.”
Paul is grateful, but notice what he does — he doesn’t just thank the Philippians; he gives God the glory.
He reminds them that the same God who provided for him is the same God who provides for us.
We serve a faithful, promise-keeping God who isn’t limited by our bank account, job situation, or circumstances. Everything we need flows from His glorious riches.
Paul goes on to say in verse 13:
“For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.”
And in verse 12, he reveals the secret to living this way:
“I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation… whether with plenty or little.”
So what’s the secret?
Trusting God.
Trusting Him is the key to accessing His strength and His provision.
In my own life, I’ve seen God provide time and time again. As I’ve been seeking what’s next, He’s surrounded me with supportive people and filled me with peace and strength that only come from Him. I’m learning to trust that His plan is better than mine — and to celebrate His provision not just in the big things, but in the mustard-seed-sized miracles that show up every day.
Today, take a moment to notice the small ways God provides.
Then, share one “mustard-seed-sized miracle” — something small but meaningful — with a friend.
It’s a reminder that God is always working, even in the little things.
Father, thank You for being our faithful provider.
Thank You for meeting our needs — not just in the big ways, but in the small, everyday details of life.
Open our eyes and hearts to see Your hand at work today.
Teach us to trust You fully and to live in the peace that comes from Your presence.
We give You all the glory and honor.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
