Today we’re diving into Exodus 17:1–7, where the Israelites are traveling through the wilderness on their way to the Promised Land.

Along the journey, they grow frustrated and begin to complain to Moses. They’re tired, thirsty, and afraid that God has abandoned them. They accuse Moses of leading them out of Egypt only to die in the desert. The tension becomes so great that Moses fears for his own life.

It’s easy to judge the Israelites for their complaining, but if we’re honest — we often do the same thing.
When life feels uncertain or resources feel scarce, we start looking for other ways to fix things instead of turning to God first. We grumble, we worry, and we allow fear to take the lead.

But this passage shows us something important. Even though the Israelites didn’t turn to God first, Moses did. He brought their need before the Lord, and God responded:

“I will stand there before you by the rock at Horeb. Strike the rock, and water will come out of it for the people to drink.” — Exodus 17:6

Even in their frustration, God met their need.
He provided water in the desert — a powerful reminder that He is faithful, patient, and aware of every detail of our journey.

This story reminds us that even when we don’t go to God first, He still welcomes us when we do.
He still provides what we need — exactly when we need it.

So if you find yourself today feeling fearful, frustrated, or unsure of what’s next — take your situation to God. He sees you, He loves you, and He will meet you right where you are. Watch how He provides, guides, and sustains you in ways you couldn’t have imagined.

Challenge

  • What situation in your life are you trying to handle on your own?

  • Where are you running to fear before running to faith?

This week, take that need directly to God.
Let Him show you that He already sees you, knows you, and has everything under control.
He is faithful — even in the wilderness.

Prayer

Jesus, thank You for who You are and how deeply You love us.
Thank You that You see every need and already know what we require before we ask.
Help us to run to You first — not to fear, not to frustration, but to Your presence.
Remind us that You are our provider, our peace, and our strength.
Let this Word take root in our hearts as we make space to hear from You.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
