In this 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting, we’re focusing on how God provides. From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible shows us that God always meets the needs of His people — not always when we want Him to, but always when we need Him to.
One of my favorite examples of God’s provision is in 1 Kings 19:3–9. The prophet Elijah had just experienced a great victory where God revealed His power as the one true God. But right after that moment, Elijah felt afraid and defeated. He ran into the wilderness, sat under a tree, and told God he wanted to die.
But God wasn’t done with Elijah. Instead of rebuking him, God provided. He sent an angel with bread and water and told Elijah to rest — because the journey ahead was long. In Elijah’s lowest moment, God gave him exactly what he needed: food, water, and rest.
That word — rest — really speaks to me. God knew Elijah didn’t just need strength; he needed stillness. I often find myself in the same place — always busy, always trying to produce more to prove my worth. But God keeps reminding me: “Rest is not laziness. Rest is preparation.”
In this season, I’m learning to receive that rest, trusting that God is providing it for what’s ahead.
God, thank You for being our Provider. Thank You for showing us that Your provision isn’t always about what we do, but sometimes about how we pause. Teach us to rest, to be nourished, and to listen so that we’re ready for what You’re preparing to do.
Open our hearts during these 21 days to see how You are providing for us in ways we might not expect.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
